"The House of Asterion" by Jorge Luis Borges is a short story from the Minotaur's perspective. Asterion, the Minotaur, describes his life in a vast, complex house where he waits for a savior. He spends his days walking, resting, and playing games, hoping for liberation.
Sketches
When I read this story, Asterion is known for being a terrifying monster, half bull and half human, but I saw him as just a lonely boy. So at first, rather than showing the well-known appearance of the monster, I wanted to express the young boy within the bull.

Final sketch
After receiving feedback that the character's conveyance was lacking, I developed the character by incorporating Asterion's original traits. The sadness of a child was expressed through a hunched posture and sorrowful eyes.
Final illustration
With the title typo, I included letters shaped into a maze to capture the essence I wanted to portray. The complexity of the maze created an effect that made the letters difficult to recognize, but by spacing the letters further apart, I was able to make them readable.
